Artist Cottage is one
of the oldest houses
in town. The cottage is a typical Karoo-style building
that has
been renovated with modern flare, whilst staying true to its original
style.
The cottage
is a
self-catering facility, with 2 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms, and
comfortably sleeps four, but can accommodate up to 5 people.
Downstairs
consists of an en-suite, double bedroom; an
open-plan dining
area; fully equipped kitchen and very large fireplace to keep you warm.
Upstairs is a loft-bedroom with a modern open plan bathroom
featuring a loose standing Victorian bath, with an enclosed
toilet. The room also has its own lounge
area.

people. It is ideal for families, friends and groups etc. The house is
fully equipped for self-catering with indoor and outdoor braai
facilities.

Location: S32 34 00.5 E20 40 57.3 Gunsfontein is
situated next to
route R354 between Matjiesfontein and Sutherland at the top of the
Verlatekloof pass. 96 km from Matjiesfontein the road sign indicates
Klein Roggeveld. Follow the well maintained wide gravel road for 7km,
you are then on Gunsfontein Guest Farm. From this turn off Sutherland
is 15km further on the tar road.
Gunsfontein is geleë langs die R354 roete vanaf Matjiesfontein
na
Sutherland. Reg bo-op Verlatekloof pas, 96km vanaf Matjiesfontein, dui
die padaanwyser: Klein Roggeveld. Volg die baie goeie breë
grondpad vir 7km en jy is op Gunsfontein Gasteplaas. Vanaf hierdie
afdraai is Sutherland slegs 15km verder aan op die teerpad.
Activities:
A
scenic 4x4 mountain pass (difficulty level 2-3). This
route will not damage your vehicle and women will enjoy it as well.
±80km of farm roads. Most of these are suitable for 4x2
vehicles. Paths in the veld can also be used as HIKING TRAILS. All
roads are suitable for MOUNTAIN BIKING STARGAZING: Sutherland is 22km
away (12mins).

Oudag
se Winkel is a family owned business, run by the older and younger
of two Du Plessis wives (married to father and son respectively).
Come and visit Oudag se Winkel
for a coffee shop with a real
‘farm’ atmosphere. We serve ‘honest’ meals in a
simplistic but delicious style. We have
freshly baked pies and handmade
candies, as well as a range of preserves.
You can also buy a range of nuts and
sweet things, baked goods (rusks and
biscuits) and local handwork. Milktarts
and other yummy snacks are baked on order.
Our shop serves as a sales point for
locally made crafts and arts, gifts and
curios too. You have to visit us while
you are in Sutherland!
Oudag se Winkel
takes group bookings
for breakfast and lunches. We
are situated next to the petrol station, in the only other tarred road
in
Sutherland, which takes you to the Observatory.

There are 2 bathrooms, a dining room, a sitting room, a
smaller sitting room with a fireplace, kitchen with stove, microwave,
toaster, kettle, cooking utensils, crockery ect. (we have electricity).
Outside
is a lapa with braai facilities. We offer braai wood for sale.
No
pets allowed.
